Visiting JIHIR

Visits to Joint Institute for Heavy Ion Research, which is located at Oak Ridge National Laboratory, are governed by Department of Energy (DOE) regulations.

If you would like to visit, please have your ORNL host contact Sherry Lamb at lambsm@ornl.gov. She will initiate the paperwork needed to obtain a badge. Once your badge request has been entered and approved, you will be granted access through Bethel Valley and pick up your badge at the ORNL visitor center

Driving Route from McGhee-Tyson Airport

The shortest route from McGhee-Tyson Airport (TYS) to Oak Ridge National Laboratory and the Joint Institute for Heavy Ion Research is to take I-140 (also known as the "Pellissippi Parkway") to TN 62 just before Solway, TN, and then follow the signs to Oak Ridge National Laboratory.
